The Maharashtra government has officially announced the recipients of the esteemed V. Shantaram and Raj Kapoor Awards for the year 2025, celebrating individuals whose contributions have significantly influenced Indian cinema. Among the distinguished honorees, veteran music composer Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar has been awarded the V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his profound impact on the music landscape over many decades. In addition, renowned screenwriter Salim Khan will receive the Raj Kapoor Lifetime Achievement Award for his transformative work in the film industry. These awards highlight the enduring legacy of both Mangeshkar and Khan, who have each played pivotal roles in shaping the cinematic narrative of India.
The announcement was made by Ashish Shelar, Maharashtra’s Minister for Cultural Affairs, with the Department of Cultural Affairs releasing an official resolution to confirm the awards. The V. Shantaram and Raj Kapoor Awards are designed to honor individuals who have made remarkable and sustained contributions to various facets of Indian cinema, including acting, music, direction, production, and screenwriting. Named after two legendary figures in Indian film history—filmmaker V. Shantaram and actor-director Raj Kapoor—these awards are considered among the highest accolades in the state’s film industry. The recognition not only celebrates the honorees but also serves to inspire future generations of artists in the cinematic arts.
