Manoj Muntashir Regrets Adipurush, Calls It His Biggest Mistake

In a candid revelation, Manoj Muntashir, the dialogue writer for the film Adipurush, has openly expressed his regret regarding the project, labeling it as the most significant error of his career. Three years after the film's release, Muntashir reflected on the overwhelming criticism that the Om Raut-directed movie received, admitting to feeling a profound sense of shame. In a recent interview with Times Now, he shared his initial dismissiveness towards the backlash, stating that it took him some time to fully grasp the impact of the film's reception. He confessed, 'Adipurush was the biggest mistake of my life, and defending that film was an even bigger mistake. I am very ashamed about it, and I beg the forgiveness of this country for all that had happened.' His candid acknowledgment of the film's shortcomings has sparked conversations about the responsibilities of creators in the film industry.

Muntashir further elaborated on the specific criticisms directed at the film's dialogues, expressing regret over his own contributions. He stated, 'Now when I look back, I am ashamed that I wrote them. I don’t know on which trip I wrote them.' This admission highlights the disconnect between the creative process and audience reception, particularly in a film that draws from the revered Hindu epic, the Ramayana. Released in June 2023, Adipurush faced significant backlash for its portrayal of key characters and its interpretation of the source material. Viewers were particularly disappointed with the dialogues and the depiction of figures such as Ravana and Lord Hanuman. Despite efforts to amend certain controversial lines, including the infamous 'kapda tere baap ka' dialogue, the changes failed to alleviate the public's discontent. The situation escalated to the point where a plea was filed in the Supreme Court seeking to revoke the film's certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), although the court ultimately dismissed the request.
