Bengaluru Eateries Consider Boycott of Swiggy and Zomato Over Commission Issues

The restaurant sector in Bengaluru is gearing up for a potential boycott of the popular food delivery services Swiggy and Zomato, as local eateries express their frustration over high commission rates and unfavorable payment practices. The Bruhat Bengaluru Hotels Association (BBHA) has voiced concerns that the current commission structure is unsustainable for many establishments, particularly smaller ones that are feeling the financial strain. If their grievances are not addressed by August 15, the BBHA has indicated that restaurants may cease to accept orders through these platforms, which could significantly impact the food delivery landscape in the city.

In light of these issues, the BBHA has scheduled meetings with representatives from both Swiggy and Zomato to discuss their concerns in detail. The discussions with Swiggy are set for next Monday, while talks with Zomato are anticipated to occur either later this week or the following week. The associations plan to present a formal request for written assurances and actionable changes to the existing policies before the impending deadline. The outcome of these meetings is crucial, as it will determine whether local restaurants continue to partner with these food delivery giants or take the drastic step of withdrawing their services.
