Jasprit Bumrah, currently ranked as the top Test bowler in the world, has been named in India’s squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, which is set to commence in August. His inclusion, however, hinges on his fitness level, a concern that has been closely monitored by the Indian cricket team. Recent reports indicate that Bumrah is on track to regain his full bowling capabilities in time for the first Test, which is scheduled to take place in Galle from August 15 to 19. The second Test will follow shortly after, held at the Sinhalese Sports Club from August 23 to 27. The anticipation surrounding Bumrah’s return is palpable, especially given his critical role in the team’s bowling lineup.
As per a report published by The Times of India, Bumrah is adopting a careful strategy to ensure he is fully fit ahead of the crucial tour. Following an impact injury sustained during the ODI series against England, he has been working closely with the Indian medical team to gradually ramp up his bowling workload. The team is optimistic about his recovery, with sources indicating that he is expected to start bowling again this week. The plan is to incrementally increase his workload so that he can adjust to longer spells on the field, which is essential for his performance. A representative from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared insights, stating, “Bumrah will start bowling this week and his workload will be gradually increased. He needs to get used to bowling longer spells again. The medical team at the CoE will be closely monitoring it, and the initial reports are that he should be good to start the first Test.”
