Neeraj Chopra Aims for Gold at CWG 2026 Men's Javelin Final

Neeraj Chopra is set to compete for his second medal at the Commonwealth Games, having successfully advanced to the final of the Men's Javelin Throw at the 2026 edition of the event. The qualification round, held at the Scotsoun Stadium in Glasgow on July 30, saw the 28-year-old athlete finish in fifth place, securing his spot among the top competitors. Alongside Chopra, two other Indian throwers, Rohit Yadav and Yash Vir Singh, also qualified for the final, finishing ninth and tenth respectively. This remarkable achievement means that India will have three representatives in the final, a feat unmatched by any other nation, as no other country has more than one athlete qualifying for this prestigious event. In total, 18 javelin throwers participated in the qualification round, showcasing a competitive field.

The qualification round featured a mix of seasoned athletes and emerging talents. Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga topped the qualification with an impressive performance, while Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, the defending champion and gold medalist from the Paris Olympics, secured the seventh position. The current world champion, Keshorn Walcott, finished in 11th place, and Anderson Peters, who won gold at the 2022 World Championships, came in second. However, the qualification round brought unexpected results, particularly for Kenya's Julian Yego, the 2014 gold medalist, who failed to advance, finishing in 13th place. This outcome highlights the unpredictable nature of competitive sports and sets the stage for an exciting final.
