Khajuraho Airport, located in Madhya Pradesh, has recently been recognized as the highest-rated airport in India for customer satisfaction, according to a report from The Times of India (TOI). This remarkable accolade comes even as the airport currently has no commercial flights operating. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) released this ranking as part of its latest Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI), which evaluates passenger experiences across various airports in the country. The report highlights that Khajuraho Airport has not had any scheduled commercial flights since July 1 and is anticipated to remain without services until at least August. Prior to the suspension of operations, the airport facilitated only two flights, connecting the UNESCO World Heritage site with Delhi and Varanasi, both of which are expected to resume in October.
Despite the absence of active flights, Khajuraho Airport has managed to surpass several of India’s busiest airports in the AAI’s biannual passenger satisfaction survey. The report notes that the airport’s terminal, which dates back to the late 1960s, has only been operational for commercial flights since 1978. The unique aspect of the Customer Satisfaction Index is its focus on the quality of the passenger experience rather than traditional metrics such as passenger traffic or the number of airlines serving the airport. The CSI is conducted biannually by independent agencies and assesses various service parameters, including cleanliness, terminal maintenance, parking availability, signage, baggage handling, security checks, seating arrangements, Wi-Fi access, food options, accessibility, and staff behavior. The feedback from passengers is combined with evaluations of hygiene, restroom facilities, ambiance, and customer service to generate a composite score out of five.
