In a climate where numerous companies are implementing abrupt layoffs and shifting towards automation, concerns about financial stability are increasingly prevalent among citizens. A recent post by a resident of Bengaluru on social media has drawn attention to these worries, particularly regarding the escalating costs of real estate. The individual expressed bewilderment over how people are managing to purchase high-end properties, some priced in crores, during a time characterized by job insecurity and uncertainty surrounding artificial intelligence. His inquiry on Reddit posed a critical question: "How are individuals affording flats that cost between ₹2.5 crore and ₹6 crore in Bangalore?" This query reflects a broader anxiety about the economic landscape and the feasibility of such investments in the current job market.
The poster highlighted that many new three-bedroom flats in Bangalore are priced at staggering amounts, reaching up to ₹6 crore. He articulated that financing these properties through equated monthly installments (EMIs) could represent a significant financial burden. He noted, "Most new 3 BHK projects in Bangalore seem to start at ₹2.5 crore and can go up to ₹5–6 crore. Even with a substantial down payment, the EMI could easily be ₹1–1.5 lakh or more. Are so many people really earning ₹3–5 lakh per month?" The man’s concerns are not unfounded; with the ongoing layoffs and the rise of AI technologies, many are left questioning how potential buyers can commit to such large financial obligations over extended periods, typically spanning 20 to 25 years. He speculated whether dual incomes, inherited wealth, or the sale of previous properties might be the key factors enabling such purchases, or if individuals are simply taking on considerable financial risks.
