Teacher Dismissed for Allegedly Having Students Comb Her Hair

In a troubling incident from Andhra Pradesh, a teacher at a government-run residential girls' school has been dismissed after being accused of having her students comb her hair during school hours. The event reportedly occurred at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) located in the Sri Sathya Sai district. This incident has raised significant concerns regarding the treatment of students and the responsibilities of educators, prompting an official investigation that ultimately led to the teacher's removal from her position. The allegations surfaced amid claims of internal conflicts among the school staff and reports that students were being assigned non-academic tasks, which further fueled the scrutiny from education authorities. The situation was brought to light through media coverage, leading to a swift response from the District Education Officer (DEO).

In response to the serious nature of the allegations, the DEO established a three-member inquiry committee composed of Mandal Education Officers (MEOs) to thoroughly investigate the claims. This committee conducted a comprehensive inquiry at the school, which lasted an entire day. During this investigation, the committee members interviewed teachers, staff, and students separately to gather detailed accounts of the situation. Following their inquiry, the committee submitted a report to higher authorities outlining their findings. Reports indicate that show-cause notices were issued to the teacher, Roopa Rani, for allegedly compelling students to engage in personal tasks, as well as to the Special Officer, Rehana, for her lack of oversight regarding the school's operations.
