Chris Brown Pleads Guilty to Affray in London Nightclub Incident

In a significant development regarding the legal troubles of R&B artist Chris Brown, the singer has pleaded guilty to affray in connection with an incident that occurred at a London nightclub. This plea comes after a series of serious charges, including assault and carrying an offensive weapon, were dropped. The incident, which took place on February 19, 2023, involved an altercation with music producer Abe Diaw at a private members club known as Tape, located in the upscale area of Mayfair. Brown's guilty plea was entered on July 24, 2026, and he is scheduled for sentencing on October 26, 2026, where he could potentially face a prison term of up to three years. Alongside Brown, his vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, also pleaded guilty to the same charge of affray.

The events leading to the charges were captured on CCTV footage, which showed Brown and Akinlolu attacking Diaw with a glass bottle, followed by a physical assault as Diaw lay on the ground. Detective Constable Zara Ripamonti of the Metropolitan Police described the attack as a “disgraceful, unprovoked assault,” emphasizing that it resulted in significant injuries to Diaw, including wounds to his head and knee that required hospitalization. The definition of affray encompasses instances where an individual uses or threatens violence, instilling fear in others regarding their safety. Following the hearing, Brown was seen outside the courthouse interacting with fans, shaking hands, and signing autographs, dressed in a beige suit, glasses, and a baseball cap. The court proceedings were notably brief, lasting less than five minutes.
