BJP Launches ₹16 Crore Flood Relief Efforts in Assam Districts

In a significant move to assist families affected by recent flooding, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has initiated a relief operation worth approximately ₹16 crore. This initiative focuses on the districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat, with the relief materials being dispatched from the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan. During the flag-off ceremony for the relief supplies, Sarma highlighted the extensive involvement of various stakeholders, including BJP workers, ministers, MLAs, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), who have been actively engaged in providing assistance since the onset of the floods. Key ministers such as Bimal Bora, Sushanta Borgohain, and Ajanta Neog have played crucial roles in coordinating these efforts across the affected regions.

The Chief Minister detailed the distribution of essential items, noting that the BJP has mobilized around 180,000 mekhela chadors, 180,000 T-shirts, and 150,000 mosquito nets to support the families impacted by the floods. He emphasized that these relief efforts are grassroots-driven and will persist in the days ahead. Although the overall flood situation has improved due to a lack of significant rainfall since July 21, Sarma expressed concern over the extensive damage that remains. Many families are still displaced, unable to return to their homes, which have either been completely destroyed or severely compromised. Additionally, the damage to roads has hindered access to certain areas, complicating recovery efforts.
