Indian Government Calls Meta for Explanation on PM Modi's Post Removal

The Indian government has once again summoned high-ranking officials from Meta, the parent company of Facebook, to provide an explanation regarding the temporary removal of a post made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This incident has raised significant concerns within the government, prompting a demand for both a policy-level and technical clarification from the social media giant. The summons comes on the heels of an earlier meeting where Meta's public policy team was called to address the removal of a post dated July 23, in which PM Modi spoke directly to the youth of India, pledging decisive action against the ongoing issue of exam paper leaks.

During a recent conference organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) focused on semiconductors, S. Krishnan, the Secretary of Electronics and Information Technology, stated that the government is insisting on a high-level representation from Meta to discuss the circumstances surrounding this incident. Krishnan emphasized the necessity of understanding both the policy implications and the technical aspects that led to the post's restriction. He expressed the government's intention to address multiple concerns during the forthcoming meeting, which is anticipated to occur within the next week. “We have asked Meta to come in at the highest level and explain what is happening,” Krishnan remarked, highlighting the importance of this dialogue.
