The Our Living Islands program aims to revitalize the quaint charm of Ireland's remote offshore islands by offering substantial financial support to individuals willing to relocate. This initiative, spearheaded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, has allocated a significant budget to encourage new residents to settle on these picturesque islands, which are often cut off from the mainland. The program not only provides a grant of approximately €84,000 (around $90,000 to $92,000 or ₹91,46,000) but also includes additional funding for infrastructure improvements, community development, and the restoration of local piers. However, it is essential to understand that this grant is not merely a handout for relocation; it is intended for the restoration of vacant or derelict properties on one of the 30 designated islands.

To qualify for this generous grant, applicants must purchase a property on one of the specified islands and use the funds exclusively for renovations or structural improvements. Once the property is restored, the new owner is expected to either occupy it as their permanent residence or rent it out on a long-term basis. It is important to note that eligibility for this grant does not exempt applicants from adhering to Irish visa and residency regulations. International applicants must fulfill all immigration criteria before they can take advantage of this opportunity. The islands included in this program are primarily isolated, lacking any bridges or causeways to the mainland. Notable locations encompass County Donegal, featuring Arranmore and Tory Island; County Cork, with Bere Island, Sherkin Island, Heir Island, and Cape Clear Island; County Galway, which includes Inis Mor, Inis Meain, Inis Oirr, and Inishbofin; and County Mayo, home to Clare Island and Inisturk. Additional offshore locations in counties like Sligo are also part of this initiative, managed by the Department of Rural and Community Development.
