Khajuraho Airport Recognized Yet Grounded Amid Flight Suspension

Khajuraho Airport has recently gained recognition as one of the best airports in India according to a survey conducted by the Airport Authority of India (AAI). However, this accolade comes at a time when the airport is facing a significant operational challenge, as it has been without scheduled commercial flights for the months of July and August. Airlines have suspended their operations, citing various operational reasons, which has created a stark contrast between the airport's high passenger satisfaction ratings and its current lack of flight services. The survey results, released earlier this month, have sparked discussions about the implications of such a disconnect between recognition and operational reality.

Airport Director Santosh Singh emphasized that the survey results should not be interpreted in light of the current flight suspensions. He clarified that the findings were based on passenger feedback collected during the first half of the year, specifically from January to June, a period when flight operations were running smoothly. During that timeframe, Khajuraho Airport successfully managed nearly 40,000 passengers, reflecting a positive travel experience. Singh pointed out that the AAI conducts these surveys biannually, and the latest results were published in July, indicating that the feedback was representative of a time when the airport was fully operational. He noted that a significant portion of the survey responses came from foreign tourists, who are a vital demographic for the airport, as Khajuraho is a key entry point for international visitors to Madhya Pradesh.
