MEA Uses South Park Meme to Address PoK Misinformation

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India has taken a unique approach to counter misinformation regarding Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh by utilizing a popular meme from the animated series 'South Park.' This move aims to clarify India's position on these Union Territories, which include areas currently under the control of Pakistan. The MEA's Fact Check unit shared the meme on Instagram, accompanied by the caption, 'How many times do I have to explain this to you?' This statement reflects the ministry's frustration with the persistent spread of false narratives about the region. The post emphasized that both Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, along with the territories under Pakistan's illegal occupation, are integral parts of India, a stance that has been consistently maintained by the Indian government.

In addition to the meme, the MEA addressed the ongoing electoral processes in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), labeling them as a mere 'cosmetic electoral exercise.' The ministry asserted that such elections are designed to obscure Pakistan's illegal occupation and to mask the serious human rights violations occurring in the region. This assertion comes in light of claims made on social media that Jammu and Kashmir remains a disputed territory under United Nations resolutions, which the MEA firmly rejected. The ministry reiterated that the territories in question are inseparable from India, and it condemned the electoral practices in PoK as an attempt to legitimize Pakistan's claims over the region.
