Madhya Pradesh Farmers End Protest as Moong Procurement Limit Raised to 60%

In a significant development for the agricultural community in Madhya Pradesh, the state government has announced an increase in the procurement limit for moong crops from 25% to 60%. This decision comes in response to widespread protests by farmers who had gathered in large numbers to voice their concerns regarding the procurement policies. The announcement was made following discussions between state officials and farmer representatives at the state secretariat. The protests saw thousands of farmers marching close to the residence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, as well as demonstrating outside the home of Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The government's swift action reflects its commitment to addressing the grievances of the farming community and aims to alleviate the pressures faced by cultivators in the region.

The newly established procurement limit will be applicable immediately, particularly benefiting farmers who yield approximately three quintals of moong per acre in various districts, including Narmadapuram, Sehore, and Harda. An official statement indicated that the government is dedicated to ensuring that this benefit reaches as many farmers as possible. Additionally, the deadline for procurement has been extended from August 10 to August 20, while the deadline for booking slots has been pushed back from July 30 to August 10. This extension is expected to provide farmers with more time to sell their produce, thereby enhancing their financial stability during this crucial period. Furthermore, the state government has decided to suspend the e-token system for fertilizer distribution until a committee can review the complaints and challenges associated with it, aiming to recommend necessary improvements.
