Rahul Gandhi Accuses Amit Shah of Violence Against Students in Lok Sabha

In a dramatic session of the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition, launched a fierce critique of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing him of orchestrating police violence against students during the controversial 'Sansad Chalo' march on July 20. This protest was sparked by allegations surrounding the NEET-UG paper leak, which has ignited widespread outrage across the nation. Gandhi's accusations were particularly incendiary, as he claimed that Shah had given orders for police to open fire on students, stating, "The Home Minister authorized the firing on our students. Pellets were fired at them. Orders were given to shoot at students." These statements led to an uproar among members of the ruling party, who demanded a retraction and an apology from Gandhi, deeming the allegations as extremely serious.

The tensions in the Lok Sabha escalated as Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju responded to Gandhi's remarks, insisting that the Congress leader must either substantiate his claims or apologize. Rijiju emphasized the gravity of the accusations, stating, "Rahul Gandhi will have to apologize," and warned that the debate could not continue unless Gandhi addressed the charges he made against the Home Minister. In a pointed critique of Shah's absence from the session, Gandhi remarked, "I am very happy today to see that the Home Minister is not present in the House. He does not have the courage to come and sit here... He is not here because he is scared." This comment further inflamed the situation, leading to a heated exchange between the opposition and the ruling NDA, with both sides resorting to chanting slogans as Speaker Om Birla struggled to restore order.
