Ajinkya Rahane Announces Retirement from International Cricket

Ajinkya Rahane has officially declared his retirement from international cricket, marking the end of a remarkable career that spanned over a decade. Rahane, who made his debut in white-ball formats in 2011 and stepped onto the Test arena in 2013, played his final match for India against the West Indies in 2023. Although his white-ball career concluded in 2018, he remained a crucial figure in the Indian Test team. Notably, he captained India to victory in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy during the 2020-21 season, but his place in the team diminished following a series of disappointing performances. Throughout his career, Rahane participated in 85 Test matches, accumulating 5,077 runs at an average of 38.46, which included 12 centuries and 26 half-centuries. In One Day Internationals (ODIs), he scored 2,962 runs across 90 matches, featuring three centuries and 24 fifties. Additionally, he played in 20 T20 Internationals, where he managed to score 375 runs, including a half-century.

In a heartfelt statement, Rahane reflected on his journey, stating, "The reality of life is that everything has a beginning and everything has an end. When the time comes, you simply have to respect it and move forward. I have always relied on timing in my batting and have always understood its importance. Today, I feel the timing is right for me to move on and announce my retirement from international cricket and all formats." He reminisced about his early days, traveling from Dombivli to practice as a young boy, emphasizing the dedication he poured into the sport. "Every single day, every innings, every opportunity I got to bat, the dream was always to wear the India cap. I lived by one simple rule - always put my country and my team ahead of myself. I played this game with complete honesty, and I have always believed that if your intent is right, the game will always take care of you."
