Neeraj Chopra Aims for Gold as Indian Athletes Shine at CWG 2026

The Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow is set to showcase a thrilling day of competition on July 31, with Indian athletes poised to make their mark. Leading the charge is Neeraj Chopra, the Olympic and world champion, who is scheduled to compete in the men’s javelin throw final at 12:45 am IST on August 1. Having qualified for the finals with a throw of 79.61 meters, Chopra is determined to secure his second Commonwealth Games gold medal, following his victory at the Gold Coast in 2018. He will be joined in the final by fellow Indian throwers Rohit Yadav and Yash Vir Singh, both of whom will be looking to make their presence felt on the international stage alongside the celebrated Chopra.

In addition to the javelin event, Tejaswin Shankar will continue his decathlon journey throughout the day. Shankar is set to compete in several events, including the 110m hurdles, discus throw, and pole vault finals, before concluding with the javelin throw and a heat in the 1500m race past midnight. Currently positioned fifth overall after the initial three events, Shankar aims to improve his standing and add to India's medal tally. The day is particularly significant for Indian boxing, as nine boxers are set to compete in the semifinals, ensuring that each will walk away with at least a bronze medal. Notable participants include Preeti (54kg), Jaismine (57kg), and Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) among the women, while the men’s team features Ankush (80kg) and Jadumani Singh Mandengbam (55kg), among others.
