Indian boxers showcased remarkable talent and determination at the 2026 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, securing five medals during a thrilling morning session on Wednesday. This impressive achievement marks a significant milestone for the Indian boxing contingent, which has been performing exceptionally well throughout the event. Lovlina Borgohain, who had already guaranteed her medal prior to the commencement of the Games, was the first to ensure a podium finish for India. Following her lead, three additional boxers advanced to the semifinals, further solidifying India's position in the boxing arena. With these five medals confirmed, India now stands assured of at least nine medals in total, pending the outcome of Jaismine Lamboria's quarterfinal match in the women’s 57kg category, which remains to be contested.
The day began with Sakshi Chaudhary, who made a strategic move by dropping from the 54kg to the 51kg weight class. She faced Northern Ireland's Caitlin Fryers and delivered a commanding performance, winning the bout decisively with a score of 5-0. From the outset, Sakshi demonstrated her superior skills, utilizing sharp jabs and precise straight punches to maintain control over the match. Her height and reach advantage played a crucial role in her victory, allowing her to keep Fryers at bay effectively. Following Sakshi's success, Arundhati Choudhary entered the ring and faced New Zealand's Morgan Henderson in the women's 70kg quarterfinal. In a tightly contested match, Arundhati emerged victorious with a 3-1 decision, showcasing her resilience and determination to secure her place in the semifinals.
