Tragic Death of Dehradun Teacher Sparks Dowry Harassment Allegations

In a heartbreaking video recorded shortly before her tragic death, Srishti Kandhari, a government school teacher from Dehradun, expressed her despair and inability to continue living under the alleged harassment she faced. The emotional footage shows Kandhari in distress, revealing that she had been suffering for the past six months due to the treatment she received from her husband's family. She claimed that they held her responsible for various unfortunate events that occurred after her marriage, referring to her as 'manhoos,' which translates to inauspicious in English. This deeply troubling situation has raised significant concerns regarding the societal pressures and expectations surrounding dowry in India.

Kandhari's mother has since filed a formal complaint detailing the mental and physical abuse her daughter endured following her marriage to Saurabh Raturi, a government employee, in November of the previous year. The couple resided in the Doiwala area, approximately 20 kilometers from the city of Dehradun. In her poignant video, Kandhari expressed remorse towards her mother for leaving her in such a manner, indicating the depth of her emotional turmoil. She articulated a sense of hopelessness, believing that the attitudes of those around her would not change, thereby leaving her feeling trapped and isolated in her suffering.
