Maharashtra Leads in PM Internship Scheme, UP Excels in Student Engagement

In the latest round of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS), Maharashtra has taken the lead in providing internship opportunities, closely followed by Tamil Nadu. This initiative, which aims to bridge the gap between education and industry, has seen Uttar Pradesh also emerge as a significant player, particularly in terms of student participation. The state has consistently ranked among the top contributors, showcasing a robust interest from young job seekers eager to gain practical experience in various sectors. The PMIS is designed to connect graduates with real-world work environments, enhancing their employability and providing them with invaluable insights into their chosen fields.

Recent statistics reveal that states with strong industrial bases and established business networks are dominating the PMIS landscape. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh are among the states that have attracted numerous companies willing to offer internships. This trend highlights the importance of industry exposure for students, as they seek to enhance their skills and knowledge through hands-on experience. The scheme encompasses a wide range of sectors, including manufacturing, technology, healthcare, and financial services, ensuring that students from diverse academic backgrounds can find relevant opportunities that align with their career aspirations.

The PMIS not only facilitates internships but also provides financial support to selected candidates. Interns receive a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000, along with a one-time joining assistance, which helps them manage their expenses while gaining professional experience. The recent round of the scheme has seen an increase in interest from both states and companies, indicating a growing recognition of the value of industry-linked learning for the youth of India. Moreover, the eligibility criteria have been broadened to include final-year students of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, allowing them to apply for internships even before completing their degrees. This change, made in consultation with the Ministry of Education, aims to encourage students to gain practical experience in leading companies while still pursuing their studies. To apply, students must provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their institution, ensuring that their internship will not interfere with their academic commitments. This initiative reflects the government's commitment to enhancing the employability of young graduates and bridging the gap between education and industry needs.
