The highly anticipated film Jana Nayagan, featuring the popular actor Thalapathy Vijay, has finally made its debut in cinemas after a prolonged struggle to secure approval from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Released on July 23, the film has garnered a mixed reception from both audiences and critics. As the box office figures for the second day of its release emerge, it is evident that the film has encountered a notable decline in its earnings.
According to reports from Sacnilk, the film's total collection on its opening day reached an impressive Rs 78.27 crore globally, with approximately Rs 42.70 crore net generated from the Indian market alone. However, the figures for Day 2 reveal a concerning trend, as the film experienced a staggering 50% drop in revenue, bringing in around Rs 21.15 crore net from approximately 12,190 screenings. This decline has resulted in a cumulative net collection of Rs 63.85 crore in India, while the gross earnings have reached Rs 75 crore thus far. Among the various language versions, the Tamil rendition has proven to be the most lucrative for Vijay, followed by the Hindi and Telugu versions, which have earned Rs 1.85 crore and Rs 1.35 crore, respectively.
The film has received a rating of 3 out of 5 stars from News18, which highlighted the director H. Vinoth's ability to create an engaging narrative that combines emotional family dynamics with thrilling action sequences and moments designed to resonate with fans of the star. While the screenplay occasionally veers into predictable territory, it maintains a pace that keeps viewers engaged, particularly those who are ardent supporters of Thalapathy Vijay. The review noted that while the film's message is clear, the narrative sometimes appears to be crafted around Vijay's larger-than-life persona rather than developing a more nuanced story. The dialogues, while impactful, occasionally resemble political rhetoric rather than authentic character exchanges. Nevertheless, for those seeking an entertaining cinematic experience, the film is likely to meet their expectations. Directed by H. Vinoth, with a score by Anirudh Ravichander, Jana Nayagan boasts a talented cast, including Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Priyamani, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Prakash Raj, among others. The film is produced by KVN Productions and is reported to be a partial adaptation of the 2023 Telugu blockbuster Bhagavanth Kesari, directed by Anil Ravipudi.
