Protests Erupt in Islamabad Over Kashmir Crackdown, Students and Lawyers Unite

In Islamabad, a significant wave of protests has emerged in response to the ongoing situation in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Students and legal professionals have taken to the streets, voicing their opposition to the recent crackdown by authorities in Rawalkot and Mirpur. Demonstrators, representing various civil society organizations, gathered outside the National Press Club to express their outrage over the violent actions taken by security forces in these regions. The protests have drawn hundreds of participants, all demanding accountability and justice for the victims of the recent unrest. Protesters displayed placards and chanted slogans condemning the government's actions, particularly targeting the military establishment for its role in the violence. The atmosphere was charged with emotion as demonstrators called for justice for those who lost their lives during the clashes, highlighting the urgent need for a response from the authorities.

Among the prominent voices at the protest was Sardar Aman Khan, a key figure in the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC). He urged residents from Poonch, Jammu, Rajouri, and Srinagar to join the movement against the alleged atrocities committed by Pakistani forces in the region. The situation has escalated dramatically, with reports indicating that at least 31 individuals have died due to the crackdown during what has been described as the initial phase of controversial legislative elections. Of these fatalities, 21 were reported in Rawalkot and 10 in Mirpur, with numerous others sustaining injuries from the violence. Eyewitness accounts detail unprovoked firing by Pakistani Rangers on civilians who had gathered peacefully in Rawalakot, further intensifying the unrest.
