CJI Surya Kant Expresses Concern Over Supreme Court Metro Station Closure

The Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant, has voiced his apprehension regarding the temporary closure of the Supreme Court metro station, a decision taken in light of the ongoing protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in New Delhi. This protest, which is characterized by its satirical approach to political issues, aims to exert pressure on the government to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The protests have been sparked by allegations surrounding the NEET-UG exam paper leaks and various irregularities within the education sector. The Supreme Court metro station's closure is a precautionary measure, especially following the violent incidents that occurred during the 'Chalo Sansad' march on July 20, which raised significant safety concerns for commuters and the general public.

In his remarks, CJI Surya Kant highlighted the difficulties faced by litigants and registry personnel due to the station's closure. He emphasized that the disruption is causing considerable inconvenience, particularly for those who rely on public transportation to access the court. Recognizing the importance of the metro station for many individuals involved in legal proceedings, he has taken the initiative to address this issue with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). By doing so, he aims to find a resolution that would allow the station to reopen and restore normalcy for those who depend on it for their daily commutes to the Supreme Court.
