In a recent incident that has stirred considerable debate, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Imran Masood faced backlash following their responses to a press conference held by the families of Delhi Police officers who were injured during the protests on July 20. This event was organized by the Delhi Police, where relatives of the injured personnel shared their personal stories, highlighting the violence faced by police officers during the clashes that erupted amid student protests led by the CJP. The families expressed their concerns that the suffering of police officers was being overshadowed in the broader public discourse surrounding the protests, which have become a focal point of contention in recent weeks.
During the press conference, poignant accounts were shared by family members, including Kunjal, the daughter of a Sub-Inspector, and Lakshay Singh Bisht, son of an Assistant Sub-Inspector. They recounted harrowing experiences, detailing how their fathers were allegedly assaulted while performing their duties near barricades and the Parliament. Kunjal revealed that her father sustained significant head injuries requiring four stitches after being attacked by demonstrators. Similarly, Bisht mentioned that his father's head had to be shaved for medical treatment following injuries incurred during the violent confrontations. The family members voiced their frustration over what they termed a “one-sided narrative” prevalent on social media, emphasizing that the plight of police officials has been largely ignored. Bisht pointedly remarked, “I only see one narrative online. Nobody is talking about the violence against police officials,” underscoring their desire for a more balanced discussion regarding the events that transpired.
