Weightlifter Lovepreet Singh clinched a silver medal in the men’s +110kg category, while discus thrower Seema Kaliramna secured a bronze, bringing India's total medal count to 17, which includes 3 gold, 10 silver, and 4 bronze medals. Despite these victories, India maintained its position in 10th place in the overall medal standings, with Australia leading the chart with an impressive 110 medals across various sports.
Lovepreet Singh emerged as a standout performer for India, showcasing an exceptional display of strength and skill in the weightlifting arena. The 28-year-old from Punjab broke the Commonwealth Games snatch record by lifting an impressive 176kg. His total lift of 388kg, which included a clean and jerk of 212kg, highlighted his prowess in the sport. Although he initially held a 10kg advantage going into the clean and jerk segment, New Zealand's David Andrew Liti managed to surpass him with a record-breaking lift of 223kg in his final attempt, narrowly securing the gold medal by just one kilogram. Lovepreet's silver medal capped off a successful weightlifting campaign for India, which concluded with a total of eight medals in this discipline.
