The model known as GPT-5.6 Luna has seen its price slashed by an impressive 80 percent, while the GPT-5.6 Terra model has experienced a more modest 20 percent decrease. These changes, which took effect on July 30, are attributed to enhancements made across OpenAI's models, inference systems, and overall computing infrastructure, which have allowed the company to pass on savings to its users. This move is expected to make AI technology more accessible and affordable for developers and businesses looking to integrate advanced AI capabilities into their operations.
The new pricing structure for GPT-5.6 Terra positions it as a balanced option for everyday tasks, now priced at $2 per million input tokens and $12 per million output tokens. This is a reduction from its previous rates of $2.50 for input and $15 for output, making it a more attractive choice for users. Meanwhile, GPT-5.6 Luna, which is designed to be the fastest and most cost-effective model in the GPT-5.6 lineup, now costs just $0.20 per million input tokens and $1.20 per million output tokens. This dramatic price cut from its earlier rates of $1 for input and $6 for output is aimed at users with high-volume workloads, such as routine coding, document processing, and various classification tasks. The flagship model, GPT-5.6 Sol, remains at its original pricing of $5 per million input tokens and $30 per million output tokens, but OpenAI has introduced a new Fast mode for this model, allowing for quicker response times at double the standard rate.
