Punjab's Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana Provides Free Cancer Treatment to Thousands

In an impressive initiative, Punjab has allocated ₹20.22 crore for the cashless treatment of 8,069 cancer patients under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana, as reported by the State Health Agency (SHA) on July 18, 2026. This program aims to alleviate the financial burden on patients and ensure that they receive necessary medical care without the stress of out-of-pocket expenses. The statistics reveal that the majority of beneficiaries fall within the age range of 36 to 60 years, with 4,285 individuals receiving treatment. Additionally, the data shows that 3,376 patients were over 60 years old, while 399 beneficiaries were aged between 17 and 35 years, and nine patients were younger than 17. This demographic breakdown highlights the widespread impact of cancer across various age groups, emphasizing the importance of accessible healthcare services for all.

The demand for cancer treatment under this scheme has remained consistently high throughout the year. In January alone, 842 patients received treatment, with numbers steadily increasing to 1,080 in February, 1,175 in March, and peaking at 1,468 patients in June. Although there was a slight decrease to 1,275 in May, the trend indicates a growing awareness and need for cancer care among the population. By mid-July, 879 patients had already benefited from the program, showcasing the ongoing commitment to providing timely medical assistance. One notable case is that of Darshan Devi from Samana, who was advised to undergo a costly cancer surgery estimated at ₹4–5 lakh. Thanks to the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana, she was able to have the procedure without incurring any personal expenses, illustrating the program's effectiveness in supporting patients in need.
