Sonam Raghuvanshi Turns Herself In After Supreme Court Revokes Bail in Murder Case

Sonam Raghuvanshi, who is implicated in the murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in 2025, has surrendered to a trial court in Meghalaya following the Supreme Court's decision to revoke her bail. This development occurred on July 29, as reported by PTI. Sonam, a resident of Indore in Madhya Pradesh, was taken into judicial custody after her surrender, according to East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem. The Supreme Court's ruling on July 23 overturned the bail previously granted to her and mandated that she report to the trial court within a three-week timeframe. Sonam was initially arrested in June of the previous year in connection with the murder of her husband, a businessman. The couple had been reported missing while on vacation in Meghalaya's Sohra region on May 23, 2025, and Raja's body was discovered in a gorge on June 2, 2025.

The police allege that Sonam conspired with her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, to orchestrate the murder of her husband for financial reasons, hiring contract killers to carry out the act during their honeymoon. On June 29, the Meghalaya High Court had upheld a trial court's decision to grant bail to Sonam, dismissing a petition from the state that sought to cancel this bail. However, the Supreme Court, in its recent ruling, emphasized that allowing her continued freedom at this juncture could impede the ongoing trial. Justices M M Sundresh and P B Varale of the Supreme Court permitted the Meghalaya government's appeal against the bail, stating that if the trial does not conclude within six months, Sonam may file for a new bail application.
