Sawan 2026 Begins: Key Dates and Auspicious Timings for Shiv Puja

The auspicious month of Sawan, also known as Shravan, has commenced today, holding significant importance for Hindus as it is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva. This month is characterized by various rituals and observances aimed at seeking blessings from the deity. The first day of Sawan is particularly noteworthy, as it coincides with several rare and beneficial yogas, enhancing the spiritual atmosphere for devotees. This year, the convergence of Ayushman Yoga, Saubhagya Yoga, and Shravana Nakshatra on the inaugural day of Sawan creates an exceptionally favorable time for worship and devotion to Lord Shiva. Throughout this month, followers engage in fasting and perform various rituals as a means of expressing their reverence and devotion. According to Drik Panchang, every Monday during the month of Shravan, known as Shravan Somwar, is deemed highly auspicious for fasting. Many devotees commit to observing sixteen Mondays of fasting, referred to as Solah Somwar, starting from the first Monday of Sawan. Additionally, each Tuesday, or Mangalwar, is dedicated to Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva's consort, with fasting on these days known as Mangal Gauri Vrat. Significant days such as Sawan Shivaratri and Hariyali Amavasya also fall within this sacred month, further enriching the spiritual significance of this period.

The auspicious yogas observed today carry profound meanings for devotees. Ayushman Yoga is believed to bestow good health and longevity upon worshippers, while Saubhagya Yoga is associated with peace, happiness, and financial prosperity within households. Shravana Nakshatra is particularly revered for its potential to dispel negativity and help individuals overcome challenges. The various auspicious timings, or muhurats, for rituals today are also noteworthy. The Abhijit Muhurat is set from 1:26 PM to 2:27 PM, while the Vijaya Muhurat takes place between 4:28 PM and 5:29 PM. The Godhuli Muhurat is observed from 9:32 PM to 9:50 PM. Among these, the Brahma Muhurat is considered the most sacred time for performing Jalabhishek, a ritual involving the offering of water to Lord Shiva. Today, this auspicious period for Jalabhishek is from 5:11 AM to 5:46 AM, providing an ideal window for devotees to engage in this revered practice.
