Chris Anne Affleck, the beloved mother of acclaimed actors Ben and Casey Affleck, has sadly passed away at the age of 83 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Her family announced that she died peacefully in her sleep on June 2, just a few months following her diagnosis in December. Chris, born Christine Anne Boldt in December 1942 in New York City, was not only a dedicated mother but also an accomplished educator and civil rights activist. She earned a master's degree from Harvard University and devoted 35 years to teaching fifth and sixth graders in public schools, retiring in 2008. Her commitment to social justice was evident as she participated in the original Freedom Riders during the 1960s, advocating for civil rights across the American South.
Chris Anne Affleck was married to Timothy Affleck, with whom she had two sons, Ben, born in 1972, and Casey, born in 1975. The family eventually settled in Massachusetts, where Chris continued to inspire her students while nurturing her sons' dreams. Ben Affleck has often credited his mother for her significant influence on his life, contrasting her academic achievements with his father's working-class roots. Following her divorce when Ben was just 12 years old, Chris played a pivotal role in supporting her son's aspirations in acting. She leveraged her connections, including her friendship with casting director Patty Collins, to help Ben land auditions for television films and commercials, which ultimately paved the way for his successful career in Hollywood.
