The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta is currently in the process of creating a detailed management case study that focuses on the organizational and strategic aspects of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) electoral campaign in West Bengal. This initiative aims to provide a comprehensive academic resource that will be utilized in management courses, specifically within discussions centered on strategy, organizational capabilities, and leadership dynamics. The case study is being spearheaded by a team comprising Prof. Alok Kumar Rai, the Director of IIM Calcutta; Prof. Ramya T. Venkateswaran from the Strategy Group; and Prof. Bodhibrata Nag, a retired professor from the Operations Group at the institute. The development of this case study reflects IIM Calcutta's commitment to integrating real-world political scenarios into academic frameworks, thereby enriching the learning experience for students.
In an official announcement, IIM Calcutta disclosed that the research team has engaged in extensive discussions with several key figures involved in the BJP's campaign efforts. Notable interactions include conversations with Shri Sunil Bansal, who is the election in-charge for West Bengal; Shri Samik Bhattacharya, the State President of BJP West Bengal; and Shri Sukanta Majumdar, the former State President. Furthermore, the research team is actively seeking to connect with influential leaders such as Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah and the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Shri Suvendu Adhikari, to gather a broader range of insights. The primary goal of this case study is to explore various academic objectives, including the examination of strategic management principles that underpinned the campaign's organizational strategies and execution.
