In the midst of ongoing protests related to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), a number of celebrities have voiced their support for the students involved. Hundreds of aspirants have gathered at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, protesting against alleged irregularities, including claims of leaked examination papers. Demonstrators have reported instances of excessive force used by the police, with some individuals sustaining injuries during confrontations. This situation has sparked a wave of commentary from various public figures, yet Ira Khan, the daughter of renowned actor Aamir Khan, has chosen to remain silent on the matter. In a recent Instagram video, she shared her perspective on why she has refrained from publicly addressing the protests, despite her advocacy for mental health awareness.
In her lengthy video message, Ira explained her stance, stating, “As someone who advocates for mental health, I often seek your attention when discussing these topics. Mental health encompasses all aspects of life, and I have chosen to speak out on certain issues. However, there are specific reasons for my silence regarding this situation, and I will do my best to articulate them.” She elaborated that she did not feel equipped to contribute meaningfully to the ongoing dialogue surrounding the protests. Ira expressed that she actively avoids engaging with distressing news, as it tends to overwhelm her emotionally. “I usually don’t look at the news or social media. I am aware of the protests, but I don’t allow myself to be emotionally affected by them,” she remarked. This approach, she noted, is not necessarily the best, but it is her way of coping with the overwhelming nature of current events.
