Microsoft has launched a new ad-supported version of Xbox Cloud Gaming, enabling players to stream games they already own without the need for a Game Pass subscription. This initiative, which is currently in a testing phase, is exclusively available to members of the Xbox Insider program. Instead of paying a subscription fee, users will be required to watch a brief advertisement block before they can start streaming their games. Reports indicate that this ad segment lasts approximately two minutes and is played prior to the user entering the streaming queue. Once players begin their gaming session, they can enjoy uninterrupted gameplay for a full hour. The streaming experience is designed to mimic the regular service, with no interruptions or overlays during the session. Additionally, players receive countdown notifications at the ten-minute and five-minute marks, allowing them to save their progress before the session ends. To continue streaming beyond the initial hour, players simply need to watch another two-minute ad block.
It is important for gamers to note that this feature is limited to titles they already own, as well as free-to-play games. According to a report from Variety, the initial list of available games includes popular titles such as 007 First Light, Forza Horizon 6, War Thunder, and Genshin Impact, among others. This new approach comes at a time when Xbox console prices are set to increase significantly, with new pricing structures taking effect on August 1, 2026, in international markets. The Xbox Series X will see its price rise to $799.99, while the Series S will be priced at $499.99. This marks the third price hike, which has been attributed in part to ongoing memory shortages affecting production and supply chains.
