Opposition Criticizes BJP Over Allegations of Paper Leak Misrepresentation

On Thursday, the political landscape in India witnessed a heated exchange between the Opposition and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following accusations made by Union Health Minister J P Nadda. Nadda had claimed that the Congress party and its allies were responsible for numerous examination paper leaks, particularly focusing on the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (SSB) recruitment paper leak. In response, leaders from the National Conference asserted that Nadda had distorted the facts to unfairly target the Congress-NC alliance. This back-and-forth came just a day after Nadda challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during a press conference, questioning why Gandhi only highlighted paper leaks associated with the BJP-led government while neglecting similar incidents that occurred under Congress and its allied state governments. Nadda pointed to a series of alleged paper leaks across the nation, asserting that the SSB paper leak in Jammu and Kashmir transpired during the time when the Congress and National Conference held power.

In his remarks, Nadda specifically addressed the SSB examination paper leak, asking Rahul Gandhi why he had chosen to be selective in his criticisms. He urged Gandhi to acknowledge the failures of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and its supporting governments instead of distancing himself from them. The response from Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was swift, as he pointed out that Nadda had misrepresented the timeline of the paper leak incident. Abdullah clarified that the leak occurred in 2022, during a period when the government was not under the control of the National Conference or Congress, but rather led by the Lieutenant Governor. He expressed gratitude for Nadda's remarks, which inadvertently highlighted the failures of the current administration, and called for clarity regarding the status of a High-Level Committee and its findings related to the issue.
