A US citizen is currently grappling with a significant career choice, torn between two lucrative job offers that could shape his professional future. On one hand, he has a position as a business analyst in the United States, offering an annual salary of approximately $115,000, complemented by a 10% bonus and stock options. This role is fully remote, allowing for a standard work schedule that aligns with typical daytime hours. On the other hand, he has received an enticing offer from India for a senior support manager role, which comes with a fixed salary ranging from Rs 48 to 50 lakh per year. This position is also remote but entails the added responsibility of overseeing a team of around 20 individuals. The individual took to Reddit to seek guidance, presenting his situation in a post titled, “50LPA in India (Senior Support Manager) or $115k in USA (Business Analyst) need to make decision quickly! Help!!”
The crux of his dilemma lies in the conditions attached to the Indian job offer. While the salary is appealing, the role requires permanent night shifts, with working hours set from 9:30 PM to 6:30 AM IST. There is a possibility that these hours could shift to 5:30 PM to 2:00 AM in the future, but this change is not guaranteed. This aspect has raised concerns for the job seeker, who is uncertain about how such a schedule would impact his health and personal life. Additionally, he is contemplating the long-term implications of accepting the Indian position on his career trajectory, particularly regarding his prospects for re-entering the US job market after a few years. He posed the question to Reddit users: “Would U.S. employers value this experience, or would stepping away from the U.S. job market make returning difficult?”
