Renowned actress Shabana Azmi has recently been diagnosed with swine flu, specifically the H1N1 virus, which has led her to take precautionary measures by isolating herself for a period of five days. This news comes shortly after her participation in a significant student protest and the Chalo Sansad march at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Following reports that she would miss a protest in Mumbai due to her health condition, Azmi took to social media to provide an update on her situation. In her message, she confirmed her diagnosis and expressed her heartfelt support for those who attended the peaceful demonstration in Dadar, dedicating a poem by her late father, Kaifi Azmi, titled 'Naujawan' to the youth involved in the protest. She shared a poignant image from the event, stating, "My dear Mumbaikars, I was meant to join your protest yesterday, but I’ve come down with H1N1 and need to remain in isolation for the next five days. Even so, I want to express my solidarity and appreciation for your efforts."
In her social media post, Azmi conveyed that she was receiving updates from young activists who were on the ground, many of whom were participating in a protest for the very first time. She expressed admiration for their bravery and dedication, stating, "I continue to be inspired by your courage and commitment and stand by you in solidarity." The actress's dedication to the cause and her connection to the youth were evident as she shared her father's poem, which resonates with the spirit of activism and hope among the younger generation. The protest at Jantar Mantar, which took place on July 20, was marked by a significant police presence, and the use of tear gas by the authorities to manage the crowd resulted in a health scare for Azmi, who is known to have asthma.
