This new model is designed to excel in both coding and knowledge-related tasks while being offered at a price point that is half of its predecessor, Claude Fable 5. According to information released by Anthropic alongside various industry benchmarks, Claude Opus 5 demonstrates superior performance compared to Claude Fable 5, which faced restrictions from the U.S. government due to its advanced features and was subjected to export controls. This marks the fourth model introduced by Dario Amodei's company in a span of just two months, showcasing the rapid pace of innovation within the organization. Anthropic has stated, 'Claude Opus 5 provides greatly improved performance for the same cost as its predecessor, Opus 4.8.' The accompanying charts illustrate how performance varies based on the model’s effort settings, allowing users to optimize for either intelligence or efficiency, thus conserving tokens for quicker and more cost-effective results.
In addition to its impressive coding capabilities, Claude Opus 5 is being marketed as a reliable everyday assistant that prioritizes efficiency. The model sets new benchmarks in rigorous coding and knowledge work assessments. Data shared by Anthropic indicates that Opus 5 outperforms Gable 5 across 10 out of 14 key metrics. For example, in the realm of software engineering, Opus 5 surpasses all competing models and demonstrates a significant improvement over its earlier versions, achieving double the accuracy of its predecessors. Anthropic emphasized, 'Opus 5 excels on valuable software engineering tasks. For instance, on Frontier-Bench v0.1, Opus 5 outshines all other models, more than doubling the performance of Opus 4.8 while maintaining a lower cost per task. On CursorBench 3.2, at maximum effort, the model performs within 0.5% of Fable 5’s highest score, yet at half the cost per task. It also achieves superior performance at a given cost compared to all other models across high, xhigh, and max effort levels.'
