Activist's Wife Warns of Disruptive Forces Amid NEET Protests

Gitanjali J Angmo, the spouse of prominent activist Sonam Wangchuk, expressed optimism regarding the government's recent commitments in response to ongoing student protests at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. These protests have emerged in light of the controversy surrounding the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2026 paper leak. Angmo, who is also an educator, conveyed her appreciation for the assurances provided by the Centre, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that no harm comes to the protesting students. She highlighted that Wangchuk had made it clear to the government that the safety and rights of the students must be protected, as they are exercising their constitutional rights peacefully. Angmo noted the resilience and patience exhibited by the students, stating that they have set a commendable example for their peers globally. However, she raised concerns about potential disruptive elements that might attempt to exploit the situation for their own interests, thereby undermining the integrity of the movement.

In her remarks, Angmo reiterated her husband's call for a thorough investigation to identify any such nefarious forces. She emphasized that the protests have been conducted in a mature and peaceful manner, reflecting the seriousness of the students' demands. Angmo expressed gratitude towards the government for its response to the protests, stating that all demonstrations have been met with grace. She also underscored the need for accountability, particularly in light of the tragic suicides of 21 students who faced immense distress following the NEET-UG paper leak incident. Angmo insisted that families affected by these tragedies should receive appropriate compensation, highlighting the urgent need for educational reforms to prevent such occurrences in the future. She called for those responsible for the failures in the educational system to be held accountable, emphasizing that the entire Parliament must unite to address the challenges faced by the youth of the nation.
