Trump Warns EU of Consequences After Google Fined $1 Billion

Trump characterized the penalties against Google and other American technology companies as "highly unethical," asserting that the United States should not be treated as a financial resource for Europe. This statement comes in the wake of the European Commission's decision to penalize Google, which has further strained the relationship between the US and the EU at a time when trade tensions seemed to be easing.

The European Commission announced the fine after determining that Google had violated the Digital Markets Act by prioritizing its own services in search results, thereby disadvantaging competitors. The ruling indicated that Google not only favored its own shopping and travel services but also restricted app developers from directing users to alternative options outside of its Play Store. The Commission has mandated that Google must adjust its practices within 60 days or face additional fines amounting to 5 percent of its average daily revenue.
