Alzarri Joseph Opts Out of Pakistan Test Series, Coach Comments

Daren Sammy, the head coach of the West Indies cricket team, has disclosed that fast bowler Alzarri Joseph has opted not to participate in the upcoming Test series against Pakistan, which is set to commence in Tarouba this Saturday. Cricket West Indies had previously announced Joseph's unavailability for the two-match series, attributing it to personal reasons. However, during a press conference held prior to the first Test, Sammy provided further insight, revealing that Joseph had actively declined the opportunity to join the squad.

In addressing the media, Sammy acknowledged the impact of Joseph's decision, stating, "Yeah, it is a big loss. Mr. Joseph has declined selection. That’s the reality of the situation." He elaborated on Joseph's recent recovery from injury, indicating that while he was initially selected for the team, he ultimately chose not to accept the call-up for reasons that are beyond Sammy's control. "That is a decision that is way over my head. I leave that with the directors to come up with whatever solutions where contracted players get to decline selection," the coach added, highlighting the complexities involved in team selection. Joseph has a commendable record, having played 42 Tests for the West Indies, where he has taken 130 wickets, and has consistently been a key player across all formats of the game.
