IOC Dismisses Human Rights Complaint Against FIFA's Infantino

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially dismissed a complaint lodged by the human rights organization FairSquare against FIFA President Gianni Infantino. According to an IOC spokesperson, the complaint was deemed to be beyond the jurisdiction of the IOC's Ethics Commission. The spokesperson elaborated that the commission conducted a comprehensive review of FairSquare's allegations, which primarily concerned FIFA's governance and management practices, as well as its interactions with governmental bodies. These issues, the spokesperson clarified, do not fall under the purview of the IOC Code of Ethics, leading to the conclusion that the complaint could not be addressed by the IOC Ethics Commission. FairSquare has been duly informed of this decision.

The complaint against Infantino was submitted on July 14, with FairSquare accusing him of repeatedly violating the IOC's political neutrality standards by publicly endorsing U.S. President Donald Trump. This complaint represents an escalation in FairSquare's ongoing campaign, which has already included challenges to FIFA's ethical procedures. Last year, the organization also filed a complaint with FIFA's Ethics Committee, asserting that Infantino had shown his support for Trump's policies on multiple occasions. Infantino, who has been an IOC member since 2020, has faced significant scrutiny due to his public appearances alongside Trump, which have become a focal point of FairSquare's allegations.
