FMSCI Receives National Sports Federation Status from Indian Sports Ministry

In a significant development for motorsport in India, the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) has been provisionally recognized as a National Sports Federation (NSF) by the Ministry of Sports. This recognition, which is aimed at fostering better collaboration between the FMSCI and the government, comes as part of a broader initiative to facilitate the return of Formula 1 racing to India. The FMSCI's application for this status was submitted on June 11, 2023, and the official order granting this provisional recognition was issued on July 23, 2023. The Ministry of Sports has instructed the FMSCI, headquartered in Chennai and led by Arindam Ghosh, to revise its constitution and Memorandum of Association (MoA) to align with the National Sports Governance Act, 2025, and its associated regulations within a specified timeframe. This move is seen as a crucial step in ensuring that the FMSCI operates within the framework of governance that the government has established for sports federations. Furthermore, the ministry has indicated that it will play a significant role in the promotion and development of motorsport in India, highlighting the importance of this sector in the nation's sports ecosystem. However, the ministry has also cautioned that failure to adhere to guidelines regarding financial integrity, anti-doping measures, governance structures, or any misrepresentation could lead to the revocation of this recognition.
